Esu Rides the Subway in New York
Watercolor
15” x 19”
A tribute piece, containing a poem I wrote of the same name. This piece honors the Orisha, Esu, Lord of the Crossroad, and Rowland Abiodun, the finest teacher I have ever known.
Esu rides the subways in New York
I always see him, partly because I am so astute
but mostly because he is not hiding
Hiding in plain sight
I look to him for guidance
which he appreciates
as he mocks me
My rides are safaris, pilgrimages
Searching for Esu on the train
Seeking the wisdom of he who finds me a fool
